Livigno Ski Resort in Italy - Useful Information.

A picturesque village nestled between the towering mountains that make up the
Livigno valley. A historic town with a deep cultural heritage coupled together with a
vibrant nightlife and duty free shopping makes it one of the most popular resorts in
Europe.

The 6 ski areas available in Livigno are phenomenal. The village height starts off at 1810m and climbs to a maximum of 2950m with over 115 kilometer of skiing available with an excellent balance between Blue, Red and Black slopes. The longest run available is a 8 km run, with 40 km’s available to the cross-country skier. 32 lifts will get you to the slope that you desire.
For the snowboarder this could be considered paradise with an amazing snow park available to you as well as an extensive “off piste” area

Beginners Skiing
Beginner lessons take place in the village under the watchful eye of a highly
qualified ski instructor. For those getting their legs back the wide, gentle slopes that
lead into the village will be just what the confidence requires. There are 29 wide blue
slopes available to you which makes this a fantastic resort to learn in.

Intermediates Skiing
39 Red slopes, makes this one of the best resorts to be in if you are an intermediate
skier. No doubt these will keep you entertained for hours on end.
Advanced
9 black slopes are available to those who have the need for a bit more excitement in
their lives. The “off piste” skiing in Livigno is simply superb and bound to push you
to your limits. These challenging runs will definitely keep your heart racing and the
adrenalin pumping.

Transfers
Zurich Or Malpensa (Milan) Airport / Livigno / Zurich or Malpensa (Milan) Airport - Saturdays only, approximately 4 1/2 hours depending on the time of year.
Clients must report to the Absolute Skiing / Snocomber representative at the pre arranged meeting area. Your transfer will depart the airport at 11h00, please ensure your travel agent has booked your return flight from the airport to depart after 11h00.
Any clients who miss the Absolute Skiing transfer will have to carry the cost of the
alternative transport.

Milan Airport
For those making their own way to the resort please take a train or shuttle bus from Malpensa to Milan Central train station. Then take a train from Milan Central station to Tirano. Change from train to bus and carry on to Livigno with a change at Bormio. Please keep in mind that the last bus from Tirano departs at 15h00.

Innsbruck Airport
Innsbruck is approximately 190 km from Livigno. Clients can take a train to connect with the regular transfer from Milan or make their own way to the village

Zurich Airport
This Swiss airport is approximately 230 km from Livigno with regular trains going via Chur into Zernez. There is a 20-minute shuttle bus from Zernez to Livigno.

Transfers to Zurich Airport
The transfer to the airport is on Saturday morning. We will advise you on Friday evening of the exact time, which we will collect you from your pension. Please keep your passport and air ticket accessible.

Travellers Cheques and Foreign Currency
Euro traveller’s cheques are the best form of traveller’s cheques to take into Europe. Money can be exchanged at banks in Livigno or at the airport upon arrival. Cash is the best option in Livigno, as credit cards are not widely accepted although there are ATM machines in the resort. Please note that resort accounts cannot be settled with credit cards

Hotel / Pension Keys:
Please note that pensions and hotels are locked at night. Your room key will open the front door of your pension, or you will be given a front door key.
Please do not forget to take your keys with you!

Breakfast:
Meals will be served in your pension or hotel every day and usually consist of a continental breakfast buffet. Self-catering accommodation does not have any breakfasts included.

Lunch:
Lunch is for your own account. Livigno has an excellent variety of restaurants, bakeries, mountainside pubs and coffee shops, lunch can cost approximately Euro 3 - 10 per person per meal.

Dinners:
Those that are staying in self-catering accommodation or in pensions will not have their dinners included in the package. Only clients that have booked into hotels will have their dinners included in the package price. Our resort team will only be too happy to suggest excellent meal venues to cater for your tastes and desires.

Drinks:
We have quoted current Pub prices, which are subject to change from season to season and depending on the establishment. The cost in Euros may apply in the village.

Ski School / Lessons:
Lessons run for 2 hours per day 09h00 – 11h00 and run for 6 days.
Extremely high standard of tuition
Ski School has approximately 100 skiing instructors
Ski classes can be arranged for clients and we can pre select beginners instructors ensuring that there is no problem with languages or instructors ability
The ski school gives lessons in normal downhill skiing, cross country skiing, powder skiing, snow boarding and other skiing disciplines
Private lessons are also available for a minimum of 1 hour per day

Ski Passes:
The Livigno Ski Pass gets you access to 6 areas in the valley with over 115 km of skiing available
Ski passes that are bought in the resort cannot be settled by credit card
A variety of options are available and the Absolute Skiing / Snocomber Representative will advise you of the best options.
Passport photos are not required for ski passes for one week skiers
Passport photos are required for any skiers staying longer than 1 week.
Ski Hire
Ski hire shop is located centrally to your accommodation in Livigno
Clients may store their ski equipment inside the pensions or hotels in Livigno
Your skis, poles and boots need to be returned to the ski hire shop before 17h00 on the day before you depart from the resort. Please ensure, the staff in the ski hire shops tick-off your name for the returned equipment. Failure to do so could result in additional days ski hire being charged to you in South Africa. There is no refund for ski hire unless accompanied by a doctor’s note.
Any damages to skiing equipment or loss of equipment must be settled directly with the ski hire shop concerned.

Ski Areas / Slopes:
The village height is 1800m and the highest point is 2950m.
6 ski areas in total allow you to ski in sunshine for longer periods.

70km of skiing available for snowboarders including a snow-park with half pipe and jumps and a boarder cross piste with a 600-metre drop down to the valley
Babysitting
Should parents require babysitting for the day or night, we will organise this.
Cost is approx Euro 10-00 per hour / per sitter
Babysitting must be arranged at least 24 hours in advance

Kindergarten:
The Ali Baba Kindergarten is by far the best kindergarten in Livigno.
Generally kids between the ages of 3 – 12 years old are looked after from 09h00 to 15h30 everyday.

General Safety
Livigno is safe at night.
Traffic in the centre of town is limited but remember that cars approach from the “wrong” side of the road.
Please also take note of the numbers on your skis as well as where you left them, especially at mountain restaurants and après-ski venues.
Please be aware of ice on the roads as slipping on it can cause injury.

Restaurant Bills & Tipping:
The restaurants work on an honesty basis. At the end of the evening, the waiter will ask what you had to eat and drink and will present you with a bill. Please note, each person can pay individually, or you can pay as a group. A tip is not expected, but
The waiters do appreciate a little something. When tipping, all you need to do is to round off your bill to the nearest ten. If you only had drinks and it comes to EURO 3.70, you will hand your waiter your money and say “EUR 4.00 THANK YOU”. If you had a meal as well, a bit extra is generally added, for example, if your bill comes to EURO 13.80, make it EURO 15.00.

Tipping Room Maids:
Your room is serviced on a daily basis and, once again, it is appreciated if you leave a tip in your room on departure. This is at your discretion, we recommend approximately EURO 8.00 per week.

Telephone Calls:
Calls can be made from your pension/hotel. Alternatively, phone cards can be purchased in the village and can be used in public ‘card’ phones around the village. As a word of warning, as in all international accommodation, telephone calls made from your hotel or pension tends to be very expensive.

Internet Access:
There are a number of venues, which offer Internet facilities in the village. The average charge is approx EUR 0.07 cents per minute.
The Library, Bar Engadina, Bar Ypioca, Roxy’s Pub and Cronox are all the establishments that have internet access to the public.

Outstanding Bills With Absolute Skiing:

If you have not pre-paid for ski lessons, pass and hire please ensure these amounts are settled with the Absolute Skiing representative no later than Thursday prior to your departure, THESE AMOUNTS CAN NOT BE BILLED BACK TO SOUTH AFRICA, on an individual basis. Please be aware that we only accept cash payments for the above bills.

Hotel Bills:
Please settle your hotel extras bill by Friday evening (prior to the farewell evening), as the reception may not be open prior to your departure on Saturday mornings.

There are over 150 restaurants bars and nightclubs in Livigno. With a large international flavour coupled together with quaint typical Italian lifestyle makes for an exciting evening out. Restaurants, bars, nightclubs and café’s are all within walking distance of your accommodation in Livigno.

Duty Free Shopping:
Other than its fantastic skiing, Livigno is renowned for its duty free area. This means that you can buy a wide range of products at bargain prices. Fuel for example costs 50% less than in the rest of Italy. Other products available duty free are cigarettes and tobacco, alcoholic beverages, perfumes, photo cameras, computers, electronic devices, leather jackets, furs and so on.
